Principal Role and Responsibilities
Design and Modeling
- Create detailed designs for mechanical components and assemblies
- Develop CAD models and technical drawings
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses
- Validate designs against performance specifications
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
- Develop and test prototypes
- Coordinate with manufacturing teams on design feasibility
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality, production, product management)
- Provide manufacturing support and troubleshooting
- Implement design improvements based on testing results
Manufacturing and Maintenance
- Install, maintain, and upgrade production machinery and equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures and breakdowns
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs
- Monitor equipment performance and minimize downtime
- Ensure safe operation of all mechanical systems
- Design fixtures, jigs, and tooling for production
- Work with design engineers on product manufacturability
- Coordinate with production teams on process changes
- Participate in cross-functional project teams
- Prepare technical reports and documentation
- Conduct feasibility studies for new equipment or processes
- Design solutions for manufacturing challenges
- Investigate and resolve product defects and quality issues
- Implement corrective and preventive actions
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
- Validate manufacturing processes
- Conduct root cause analysis on production problems
- Support quality audits and inspections
Vendor & Parts Management:
- Manage relationships with parts suppliers and service vendors
- Qualify and evaluate aftermarket components and replacement parts
- Optimize spare parts inventory levels and availability
- Negotiate with suppliers on defective components and warranty support
- Develop specifications for repair parts and components
- Establish approved vendor lists and conduct supplier audits
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all repair activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards
- Develop and enforce safety procedures for repair operations
- Manage hazardous materials handling and disposal procedures
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations
- Stay current with changing regulatory requirements
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software and engineering analysis tools
- Strong understanding of mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- A minimum 1 year of mechanical design and manufacturing engineering experience
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (Machining, Welding, Bending, Laser, etc)
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Project management capabilities
